Aspire Technology Solutions’ Managing Director Nigel Begg’s exceptional leadership skills and business acumen – proven through the company’s stunning reputational and financial growth – have been recognised with his selection as a regional finalist in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 Awards.
Judges made their decision based on key criteria including Nigel’s innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, personal integrity and influence, strategic vision, and his role in financial performance and the company’s national and international expansion.
The awards, now in their 30th year globally and 18th in the UK, search for the UK’s most innovative entrepreneurs and celebrate the spirit and contribution of exceptional business leaders who can see the future and help to reshape it.
Running in more than 145 cities in over 60 countries worldwide, it honours those who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses, and who have the insight to see how things could work better – and to make them happen.
Nigel’s selection comes just two months after Aspire, which he co-founded in 2006, was named one of the North East’s 50 fastest growing technology firms. In 2015/16 Aspire’s turnover grew to £10.2m, far exceeding the £9m target and up from £7.35m the previous year. The company’s Mission 2020 growth plan aims to increase turnover to £20m by 2020. He said:
“The North East is a hotbed of innovation and talent, and to be selected as a regional finalist in this hugely prestigious award is very exciting for me personally and for Aspire as a company.
“I firmly believe it is a reflection of the incredible strides we are making overall through technological innovation, staff development, improved productivity and performance, and fantastic customer service.
“The personal attributes that have been recognised through my selection are those that can be seen to run through the company’s outlook and vision as whole.”
The 12-strong judging panel are entrepreneurs or business people who have achieved success in their respective fields. They include Peter Roberts, founder and director of Pure Gym, Alastair Waite, Chief Executive of Altec Engineering Group, and Marnie Millard, CEO of Nichols.
A North Judges’ Reception takes place in Leeds on Tuesday, May 17, with the North Awards Dinner following on Tuesday, June 21, and the UK Awards Dinner on Monday, October 3.
