We are delighted to announce that Aspire has been crowned ‘North East Company of the Year’ at the North East Business Awards, 2020.
After winning the top prize at the Northumberland & Tyneside regional heat earlier in the year, we once again won the top prize at the grand final, which was held virtually on Thursday 24 September 2020.
Aspire was launched 14 years ago by Chris Fraser and Nigel Begg and we now employ more than 150 people. In 2019 we exceeded our five-year goal of reaching a £20m turnover a year early and our recently reported revenues of £23m to February 2020 show a 15% jump year-on-year.
We have ambitious plans for improving business connectivity across the region and have invested £2.5m in the local infrastructure to launch our own North East full fibre network. Known as Ultrafast Dedicated Connectivity (UDC), we offer connectivity of up to 100 gigabit per second – the fastest speeds and most reliable service available in the country. We have plans to invest a further £4m in local infrastructure to boost business connectivity across the North East and support companies through the Covid-19 pandemic.
Chris Fraser, MD said: “I remember when we first applied for the North East Business Awards back in 2008, looking towards the big awards and wondering if we could ever, or would ever win any. It just seemed impossible to scale those heights.
“We were lucky enough to win newcomer of the year some years ago and then won the company of the year award at the regional heats, which just knocked our socks off. To come through and win at the grand final – I don’t think I can put into words just how much it means to us.”
It’s a fantastic recognition to win Company of the Year but it wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our people.
