Aspire installed Small Business Server 2011,Windows Server 2008R2 and SQL 2008 but rather than running the software on physical servers, Aspire created a virtual environment in order to leverage additional performance from the existing infrastructure and provide a disaster recovery solution.
Aspire’s solution comprised of two Dell R610 Virtualisation hosts with shared storage in the form of a Dell Power vault MD3200i SAN device. On this, Aspire installed VMware vSphere Essentials Plus which has provided cost-effective server consolidation and built-in business continuity with minimal capital investment.
The Dell hosts, in conjunction with the shared storage device, enable servers to be migrated to an alternative host in the event of a hardware failure. This in turn enables the servers to function with optimum efficiency at all times, thereby resulting in an always-available IT environment that is more cost-effective, resilient and responsive to the changing needs of CPFL.
