Nixon Hire is a leading provider of plant, site accommodation, welfare facilities, portable toilets and solar solutions to hire.

Founded in 1967, the company is a dynamic and professional family-run business employing almost 600 people across 20 UK sites.

Nixon Hire draw on over 50 years of experience in delivering quality plant, tools, machinery, accommodation, portable toilet products and services across all parts of the country.

The company have been an Aspire Technology Solutions customer since 2013. Since then, Aspire has worked closely with them to become a valued extension of their IT team.

Fully Resilient Wide Area Network (WAN)

Previously, Nixon Hire’s WAN was suitable for their business requirements when the infrastructure was first installed, but as the business continued to grow, they required a more resilient network to meet their evolving requirements.

To achieve this, Nixon Hire turned to Aspire to design and implement a WAN solution to link their 20 sites. Aspire’s technical ability, innovative design and reputation for customer service were key factors in their decision to engage.

As an Internet Service Provider partnering with all of the major carriers, Aspire were able to use different network carriers for the solution, ensuring the best service and pricing available. From the 20 sites across the Nixon Hire network, 15 of these have dedicated leased lines terminating into Aspire’s privately owned data centre, whilst the remainder have separate leased lines from other network carriers terminating into alternative data centres. This ensures 100% uptime and backup resilience. All sites have EoFTTC, FTTC or 4G backup connections.

Since the successful WAN implementation, Nixon Hire have seen a reduction in downtime. The network has given them a more flexible and cost-effective way to connect to their offices. The company can now rely on fast, secure and stable connections enabling their staff to work more productively to support their continued growth ambitions.

Scalable Disaster Recovery & Online Backup

Among other key projects, Aspire has implemented a DRaaS (Disaster Recovery as a Service) and an Online Backup solution for Nixon Hire to meet their growing business demands. Aspire started the project by creating and configuring a new Remote Desktop Solution (RDS). Aspire currently provide 20 virtual machines within their data centre which include SQL servers, domain controllers, remote desktop services and application servers.

All servers are included in Nixon Hire’s DRaaS and Online Backup solution. Prior to implementation, Nixon used to replicate services from their Newcastle Head Office to their Sunderland Office. With their new solution, replication is between Aspire’s privately owned data centres providing Nixon Hire with one of the most resilient and cost-effective services available.

With access to Aspire’s RealCARE IT support package, Nixon Hire are safe in the knowledge that their infrastructure is monitored and managed 24/7/365. The service includes the management and renewals of all licencing requirements to keep Nixon Hire’s tech stack functioning and ensure the business is fully compliant. The company also benefit from a dedicated Service Account Manager to work with them on strategic technology goals.

In addition, Aspire provide a fully managed firewall solution with inbuilt security applications for network and web protection. With extra protection for end-user security, the solution protects against threats such as malware, phishing and malicious traffic.
